Capturing Moments, Crafting Stories

My name is Farah Alshatti and I am a passionate storyteller.

I am a writer, director, cinematographer, an editor and above all, I am an artist.

I'm originally from Kuwait where I was raised and lived most of my life, but I was born in Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh.

Back home, and as an attempt to please my parents;  I started my career in tech as a web developer. After graduating with a BS in I.T., I decided to move to the U.S. and give it another try. It was not an easy transition. And while I struggled to truly accept myself as an artist, I am determined and committed to my pursuits.

Art, as a form of expression has unfortunately been regarded with suspicion in much of the Middle East. Cultural and religious norms can often lead to art being seen as a taboo, which left me feeling suppressed and unable to freely express myself. Despite this, I can now say that I have found ways to push through boundaries and share my vision with the world – it is a testament to my own resilience, determination and the burning desire to express myself and  to find my voice.

For any artist, the journey of self-discovery can be both thrilling and daunting at the same time. It requires courage and dedication to truly accept and embrace one’s creative pursuits. There are very few shortcuts or easy answers along the way, and sometimes it may take years or even decades of hard work before true artistic identity can be found and fully expressed. It is a long, winding road, but I believe the rewards of self-discovery can be incredibly fulfilling.

I chose to call myself a storyteller because I believe that storytelling is one of the oldest forms of expression and survival mechanism. It provides a powerful outlet for creativity. From ancient tales to modern films, stories have the unique ability to transport us to different places and times, helping to inspire empathy and understanding in the process. Storytelling can give voice to the marginalized, shed light on difficult topics, and bring hope to a broken world. It is an invaluable form of expression, one that can move and shape hearts, minds, and cultures.

My background in tech has given me a strong foundation in problem-solving, which I apply to all areas of my work and creativity is at the core of everything I do.  My urge to communicate has led me to explore many different forms of art, from the technical aspect of storytelling to the artistic ones, and I am always thrilled to take on new  creative challenges. I believe that this is one of my greatest strengths, and it fuels me to continue pushing the boundaries of what is possible.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to work on something that I'm so passionate about.

With love and passion,

Farah Alshatti
